About
Rendezvous Ski Trails is a fantastic place to visit during the winter months when you are a ski lover. It is only available from November through March, and there are often periods of limited access due to the weather, but it’s definitely worth visiting if you get the chance to do so.
I had the chance to visit this past season with my family, and we had a great time!
The trails are very easy to get to from the town, and they offer more than 35 kilometers of hills and trails to explore. Most of them are groomed well, from my experience, and thanks to the pine and open meadows between them, they stay in good condition throughout the day.
There are a number of events that take place here throughout the year too.
When I was there, they were doing the Yellowstone Rendezvous Race, and it was a really great experience. There were hundreds of skiers doing what they love.
The race starts, and everyone rushes. Racers can choose from a 5K, 10k, 25k, or a 50K, depending on what they wanted to do. Overall the event was incredible!
Regardless of your trail experience Rendezvous Ski Trails offers a wintery fun time. I highly recommend making some time to visit if you’re there during their open months!
Fun Facts About Rendezvous Ski Trails
The trails are located at 6,800 feet above sea level. That creates the right altitude for some great skiing adventures, and though skiing is typically a wintertime thing, you can often do so during the warmer months as well.
Since the trails are located right next to the Continental Divide, the entire area is stunning. And due to this location, the snow tends to come in early in the year and sticks around late into the season.
I have traveled a few times late in the season and still enjoyed a fantastic time.
And if you’re not a skier but love the snow and want to try snowshoeing, you can also do some snowshoeing here. This is one of the best overall experiences for those who have some skiing experience and want to try something new too.
So whether you want to ski or snowshoe, Rendezvous Ski Trails have you covered!
Getting There
The Rendezvous Ski Trails are located just to the south of West Yellowstone.
You can easily get there by I-20 or I-191 and then follow that to Yellowstone Avenue. It should only take you about 10 minutes from the center of the city.
Cost
The Rendezvous Ski Trails pass is $15 per day or a season pass is $100.
Prices are subject to change. Please make sure to check their website.
Local Tips
- You can rent the equipment you need, but we brought our own.
- If you have a child that is not skiing, you do not have to pay for them as long as they are in a carrier or chariot.
- Some of the events require that you pay in advance for your registration and admission (I know this was the case for the visit we did on the 5K day).
- You can get food and drinks nearby, but these are at an additional cost. If you want to leave and come back later in the day, you can do that, which is what we did to grab lunch on our day here.
- The costs change during the year due to an agreement with U.S. Forest Service and other organizations locally. The day passes are the best way to get in and keep costs affordable.
