Squatchee’s Soda

Visiting Island Park, I stopped in at Squatchee’s Soda for a quick lunch, and boy, was I not disappointed. What a great little location that seems to be at the right place at the right time.

Squatchee’s is run by local family and friends, and they are super friendly. They are open from 7 am to 7 pm each day, from what I saw, and that was perfect for a quick lunch stop, though their breakfast menu looked good, too, especially the cinnamon rolls.

In fact, the cinnamon rolls looked so good I asked about them. They are made using a family recipe that has been passed down for generations. Definitely can see why that is! They are fluffy and soft, and you can get an entire pan of them to take home with you.

While the location offers some good food, I also found that it is mostly a soda shop.

I didn’t realize this initially because it offers so much more, but Squatchee’s actually offers dozens of drink options for you to choose from too. So whether you want something you remember having as a kid or something new with a weird flavor combination, they do it for you.

There are a lot of fun things to try here on the menu, making this cool little spot a must-visit over and over again!

A true small joint, Squatchee’s Soda is really just that—a fun, friendly soda shop.

Pull up, hop out of your car, place an order, and then wait for it. There are a few picnic tables with umbrellas to sit on for a chat and to eat. The views are fantastic, and the people were very friendly and sweet to all of us in my party.

All in all, it was a fun place to stop. I highly recommend taking some time to try it out!

Squatchee’s Soda: Menu & Drinks

The menu is a bit unique, but I found it offered just what I wanted—a pulled pork sandwich that was full of flavor and lots of sauce. It was a good meal and filling, with the sandwich pretty well packed. The bun was soft as well. I also got an order of mac and cheese, which was good. It was a typical type of mac and cheese, but the portion was hearty, and I was certainly full after this meal.

Where they really do a great job is with the drinks.

You have a lot of options to choose from. I tried the Summer Squatch, which had fresh lime and a mango puree. It was so sweet and satisfying on a hot day. They also offer a wide selection of lemonades, including blueberry, coconut cream, pineapple, raspberry, and watermelon.

Since it was getting late into the afternoon, I had a cup of coffee to go with me. I enjoyed the Caramel Macchiato that I got, which was made with a rich espresso blend. It was certainly a powerful punch and just what I needed. They have a number of different ways to specialize your coffee, including adding flavors of all types to it.

Local Tips

  • The cinnamon rolls are made fresh every day—and they smell amazing.
  • The area offers an outdoor patio with a few tables and umbrellas, and you can bring your dog along with you to sit outside to enjoy the sun.
  • I found the view fantastic. That may not be why you visit a location like this, but enjoying a good meal with a fantastic view right off the road was a nice treat.
  • Don’t rush it. I know that they are a small location and they are not super busy, but they make everything when ordered, so it seemed to take a bit longer. It was worth it.
